Five Healthy Habits During Business Travel

 

Have you experienced weight gain or felt your clothes getting that little bit tighter after just a week of business travelling? Do you feel fatigued and tired all the time while on the road? If so, you might want to pay attention to these 5 healthy habits for people who spend time travelling!

 

The key challenge of business travel is ‘time’. With a tight schedule and meetings all day long coupled with jet-lag, business lunches, dinner and drinks, you hardly have time to sleep never mind time to look after yourself and stay healthy.  In these circumstances, here are 5 tips for you to stay fit while you are on business trip.

 

  1. Be ‘MINDFUL’ at Hotel Buffet Breakfast: They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, true… However, if you eat big breakfast, big lunch, and big dinner, it will translate into a ‘bigger you’.  Hotel buffet breakfast is extravagance with lots of choices. However, choose it wisely and mindfully. There’s always a healthy options around. Go for mixed fruits, boiled eggs and a slice of whole grain bread instead of greasy bacons & sausage and fluffy pancake and waffle.  Heavy high protein breakfast is suitable for those who do physical labor but not for people who will be in meetings all day.

 

  1. Create your own healthy minibar supply: Try to eat enough fruits and vegetables.  Most people not have the opportunity to do so because you mostly can’t order “a plate of mixed fruit” at a restaurant for business lunch or dinner and it’s not available at Hotels. Therefore, make time to visit a supermarket as soon as you arrive, stock up on healthy snack such as fruits, carrots sticks and healthy dip to replace all those minibar chocolate and crisps.

 

  1. Wake up 30 minutes early and workout: You maybe sleep deprived but trust me, 30 minutes exercise can give you more energy than 30 minutes more sleep. Most hotels would have a fitness center, so go on a treadmill or go cycling for 30 minutes to get your blood flow and sweat the toxin out. Just 30 minutes of cardio exercise will make you more alert and more focused.

 

  1. Drink a lot of Water: This habit should carry on whether you are on business trip or not. Most people take drinking water for granted and yet it can be hard to get enough water if you are away from your home or office. Keeping yourself hydrated has a major impact on overall health because 70% of our body is water. Travelling on the plane usually makes you dehydrated and you are not offered enough while on the plane. So once on the ground, you need to rehydrate your body, and continue to do so the rest of the trip.

 

  1. Walk the City: Feeling tired from a day long meeting and wanting to get back to the hotel using a taxi? Maybe try to opt for a public transportation in a city where it’s safe and convenient? It’s a way for you to stretch your legs, clear your mind and enjoy the city. If this too hard in a non-friendly public transport city, just get a taxi and hit a hotel gym for another 30 minutes.
